Increased ApoB in small dense LDL particles predicts premature coronary artery disease.

چکیده
The relation between plasma lipoproteins and atherosclerosis has evolved over the past fifty years. Serum cholesterol levels were shown to be associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) in familial hypercholesterolemia in the early 20 century (see Frederickson1). This cholesterol was determined to be in a particular lipoprotein class2 now termed low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.3 LDL cholesterol has been shown to predict premature CAD in many studies,4 and a reduction in LDL cholesterol with statin therapy has been shown to decrease CAD events by up to 50% in primary5 and in secondary6 intervention trials. The National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel7 initially based recommendations for therapy to prevent CAD on LDL cholesterol levels. Later the measurement of HDL cholesterol was added to estimate risk.8

The association between small dense low density lipoprotein, apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A1 ratio and coronary artery stenosis
Abstract Background: Recently, small dense low density lipoprotein (sdLDL) has been highlighted as a new risk factor for the coronary artery disease (CAD).Small dense LDLs are believed to be atherogenic since these particles are taken up more easily by arterial wall. They are readily oxidized and have reduced affinity for low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor and increased affinity...
متن کاملSialic acid content of low density lipoprotein and its relation to lipid concentrations and metabolism of low density lipoprotein and cholesterol.
A low sialic acid content in low density lipoprotein (LDL) has been associated with atherogenicity and coronary artery disease (CAD) in many but not all studies. We investigated associations of the sialic acid-to-apolipoprotein B (apoB) ratio of LDL with lipoprotein lipid concentrations, kinetics of LDL, metabolism of cholesterol, and the presence of CAD in 98 subjects (CAD(+), n = 56; CAD(-), ...
متن کاملLipid disorders and mutations in the APOB gene.
BACKGROUND Plasma lipoproteins are important determinants of atherosclerosis. Apolipoprotein (apo) B is a large, amphipathic glycoprotein that plays a central role in human lipoprotein metabolism. Two forms of apoB are produced from the APOB gene by a unique posttranscriptional editing process: apoB-48, which is required for chylomicron production in the small intestine, and apoB-100, required ...
متن کاملسطح LDL کوچک و چگال، لیپیدها و لیپوپروتئینها در بیماران مبتلا به گرفتگی عروق کرونر و افراد سالم
Background & Aim :Low density lipoprotein (LDL) particles are heterogenous with respect to their size, density and lipid composition. Among LDL particles ,the smaller and denser LDLs (small dense (sd)LDL) are believed to be atherogenic since these particles are taken up more easily by arterial wall. They are readily oxidized and have reduced affinity for LDL receptor and increased affinity for ...
متن کاملLDL pattern and correlation between LDL size and HDL-C, Triglyceride in type II diabetic patients compared with normal individuals
Introduction: Low density lipoprotein particles are non homogenous in terms of their density and composition. Type B pattern is characterized by predominance of small dense LDL particles. Investigations indicate that small dense LDL is associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). This study is designed to recognize additional effective parameter which could perhaps cont...
